Abrau-Durso Wines Won the Highest Awards at the Korean Wine Challenge 2024
It is the second year running that the Abrau-Durso Group has received the highest awards at the largest Korean professional tasting competition. This year the Abrau-Durso still and sparkling wines won 2 gold prizes. And classic sparkling wine Victor Dravigny Brut won the Grand Prix — the Best of Country Award, and became the first Russian wine with this prestigious title.
In its 20th year, there were more than 300 wines from 29 countries exhibited at this Korean Wine Challenge. The wines from the most popular and famous winemaking regions – Italy, Spain, France, and Germany – were included in the tasting competition program. It is the second year running that Abrau-Durso has won prizes and received high ratings.
Classic sparkling wine Victor Dravigny Brut of the 2021 harvest received this year’s honorary award the Best of Country, which is awarded to wines with high ratings only. This classic brut is the most famous in the Victor Dravigny collection. Each bottle is aged in the rock tunnels of Abrau-Durso for more than 12 months. This fresh sparkling wine has fruit aroma with subtle mineral finish.
Gold medals were awarded to Abrau Durso Reserve Rosé – a Charmat-method wine made from classic grape varieties pinot noir, pinot franc and cabernet sauvignon with the aroma featuring bright notes of fresh red wild berries, such as raspberry, cherry and wild strawberry, and Abrau Durso Cabernet Sauvignon of 2022 from the limited collection of premium class still wines. Abrau Durso Cabernet Sauvignon aged in oak barrels with the protected designation of origin has the aroma with the elegant combination of black currant and ripe cherry with spices complimented with new French oak tones.
“We are very pleased to have such high ratings and awards at the anniversary Korean Wine Challenge 2024. It is the second year running that our wines have received high ratings from the professional Korean judges. The Victor Dravigny’s Grand Prix — the Best of Country, is the main achievement of this year. This award is not for every country. Only 10 wines from the most famous winemaking regions of the world won the main prize of the competition in 2024. The Abrau-Durso sparkling and still wines keep on winning the hearts of Asian connoisseurs and experts, which is an important step to conquer this promising market,” President of the Abrau-Durso Group Pavel Titov comments.
Over the 20-year history KWC has firmly established itself as Korea’s most influential wine competition. KWC selects wines whose quality and value have been recognized by Korean juries composed only of incumbent leading sommeliers. Wine Review, the only magazine in Korea promoting wines, hosts this event. All wines submitted to this competition are classified based on type, style, and region. The key expert evaluation parameters include color, aroma, taste, and harmony and balance.
